Start a new run

A run searches Indian news, reads the articles it finds, and fills in the fields from India News Extraction. Work through the four steps below — the cost is shown before anything starts.

  1. What to search for

Sift searches Google News for each of these, separated by commas. More words find more articles but cost more to search.

Or start from a ready-made set:

Older news is patchier: many articles from 2013–2015 have been taken offline, so early years return fewer results than recent ones.

  2. Which states and union territories

Each one is searched separately, so its results are attributed to that region.

    0 selected

Selecting every region multiplies the number of searches, so watch the cost estimate in step 4 before starting.

  3. How much to collect, and with which AI

The run finishes once it has this many. 10,000 is the usual setting.

Stops busy states using up the whole quota.

This reads each article and fills in the fields. The run uses exactly the model you pick — Sift never switches to a different one on its own.

The most reliable brake if your search account has a limited balance: it counts searches, not dollars. Leave blank for no limit.

A second brake covering search and AI together. A 10,000-record run normally costs about $10.

  4. Check the cost, then start

Creating a run adds it to the queue. The background worker picks it up within a few seconds.
